This project was launched in 2014 as a collaboration with Kyoto University of Arts to develop a new Nishijin textile motif by digitally archiving approximately 20,000 obi designs from the Hosoo collection. In 2022, “MILESTONES—Designs in the Margins” was held. The exhibition involved AI machine learning of traditional designs as well as the generation of new ones in collaboration with Shōya Dōzono, interpretation and coloring of designs by the creative unit SPREAD, and the development of Nishijin textile patterns for installations and digital art pieces.
